Help Save the King of Sushi!!!

I'm not blogging much anymore and I didn't expect any new posts this year but I just had to put this post down even if no bloggers are actually going to see it. I just think it is really important to express this.

The King of Sushi is also know very well as Blue Fin Tuna.
Tuna is considered very yummy amongst people who like Sushi or eating Mediterranean seafood. But most people don't know that the Blue Fin Tuna is classified as Critically Endangered. Something (usually an animal) becomes critically endangered when it is facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild in the immediate future.

Blue Fin Tuna are very large fishies that can be found in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans in both temperate and cold seas. They are (or probably were) a very large species commonly caught by Indonesian and Japanese commercial long-liners in many of their spawning grounds.

Some people have tuna ranches where they keep tuna in many netted pens the size of football fields! The main goal is not to breed them but to fatten then up by feeding them mackerel and sardines. The goal is to get the tuna to gain 20% in weight. There is also a very special event in the Mediterranean which begins with a small armada of boats. They sail off to the spawning ground where the boats assemble in a very large circle. They surround the circular area with nets. When two hours pass by they start to slowly close in on their prey, bringing the boats and nets closer to each other. When they are close enough the fishermen wrestle the smaller tuna on board, while the bigger ones have to be winched. The water and decks become really red from the blood. This event is called "la mattanza" which literally means "the slaughter." This is done all in the service of sushi.

"Southern bluefin tuna are a highly migratory species. If the current exploitation continues, the population will be below 500 mature individuals within the next century, which is a number far too low to be sustainable."

GO THE KING OF SUSHI!!! :)

The new Einstein!!!

Yes we all know Einstein as the genius with the weird hair-do.
But a new Einstein has risen and proved to be a superstar! No, the new Einstein isn't a guy with a wacky do. The new Einstein isn't human, in fact, she a girl!
Einstein is an african grey parrot.
African grey parrots are one of the smartest parrots in the world. There are heaps of other famous African Greys, but Einstein would be the most remarkable! To see Einstein during one of her shows, go to this site:

Gymstrada 4ever!!!!!!!!

As some of you may have heard, Maniac me, Miss Candy, Spud, Kittykat and I have started a gymstrada rouine. We will be representing Peachgrove at the Waikato Inter-Intermediate Gymnastics competition next year.
What is Gymstrada? Well it is a kinda gym-dance thingy performed by a group of gymnast with background music. It is a challenging and fun sport in which teamwork, timing and synchronized-gym/dancing is the key.

The video I reccomend you to watch is a video about rhythmic gymnastics. The people in the video have probably trained for so many hours each day to be that good!!!
Gymstrada people:
We don't have to do everything you see in the video, but we should watch the parts in the middle where they show you groups doing rhythmic together. This could make us even better and we could win the competition again like we have for 3 or so years!

Mermaids

Ever since watching The Little Mermaid a few weeks ago, I've had a fantasy about mermaids, and whether they really exist.
The Mermaid is a legendary aquatic creature with the head and torso of a female and the tail of a fish.
Mermaids would sometimes sing to sailors and distract them until they eventually walk off deck or cause shipwrecks.
In some cases it is said that they drown the men while trying to rescue them. They are also said to take them down to their underwater kingdoms.
